Amazon Prime Video has officially canceled its fantasy series The Wheel of Time after three seasons. Despite a strong start and critical acclaim for its third season, the show will not be returning for a fourth installment.
Based on Robert Jordan's beloved book series, The Wheel of Time debuted in 2021 and quickly became one of Prime Video's most-watched original series. The show starred Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai on a quest to find the prophesied Dragon Reborn. Season 3, which premiered in March 2025, was praised for its cinematic quality and compelling storytelling, achieving a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes .
However, despite its creative strengths, the series faced declining viewership numbers and high production costs. Sources indicate that Season 3's performance was not strong enough compared to the show's cost for Prime Video to commit to another season, leading to the decision not to proceed with a fourth season
